LONG AWAITED SHORT GAME PRACTICE AREA OPENED
Club members were able to start using the long-awaited short game practice area at Kingsdown Golf Club. This top class facility, arguably one of the very best in the South West, has been a long term project since it's inception in 2009. Thanks to a dedicated and knowledgeable group of club members who developed the idea, championed it through the club's strict process to achieve approval, and managed the project to completion, the club has another enviable asset that along with the driving range and academy course very few clubs both locally and indeed nationally are able to match. The basic construction was carried out by M J Church and used 23,000 metric tonnes (200 lorry loads) of imported, environmentally screened materials, and the project met all the ecology requirements which were included in the planning consent.
Much praise must go to Course Manager Mark Ford, Deputy Course Manager Mark Simmons and their team who were responsible for constructing the PGA specification green - all 1800 square metres of it - the eco bunkers and all the approaches and surrounds. Every type of playing surface encountered at Kingsdown Golf Club, from close cut approaches to varying height of rough are a feature of the short game practice area, to cater for players of all abilities.
